Police reopen westbound lanes on East 23rd Street; injury accident forced closure

Lawrence have police completed their on-site investigation into an injury accident near 23rd and Rhode Island streets and have reopened East 23rd Street to all traffic.

The accident occurred about noon Friday, and as police worked at the accident scene, they closed the westbound lanes between Barker Avenue and Massachusetts Street.

Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman, said the accident involved three westbound vehicles, and one driver was taken by ambulance to the hospital. McKinley said that driver’s condition hasn’t been released.

He urged motorists to be cautious in that area, which contains reduced speed limits and lane shifts because of road repairs.
