Lions’ Strauss up for another football award

Lawrence High senior Brad Strauss has been nominated for another high school football award.

Strauss, a finalist in December for the Thomas A. Simone Award, now has been named one of six finalists for the 2012 Get Busy Livin’-Kpreps Player of the Year Award.

The award promotes The Dylan Meier Foundation. Meier, a former all-state quarterback at Pittsburg and starter at Kansas State University, died in a hiking accident in 2010.

According to a release on Kpreps.com, the annual award will go to “one Kansas senior who not only has shown excellence on the field but has also demonstrated the values that Dylan embodied and Get Busy Livin’ (GBL) strives to promote: adventure, fitness, curiosity, generosity and a daily zest for life experiences.”

An LHS quarterback and safety, Strauss is up against Bishop Miege quarterback Montel Cozart, Emporia wide receiver and defensive back Jerel Morrow, Bishop Carroll quarterback Zeke Palmer, Blue Valley offensive lineman Clay Rhodes and Conway Springs quarterback, running back and linebacker Tanner Wood.

Strauss led the LHS football team’s participation in a local food bank, and is active in FLA, Link, Christmas Adopt a Family, the National Honor Society and the LHS youth football camp. Strauss earned a 30 on his ACT and has a 3.7 GPA.

Area players Gabe Cleveland of Eudora and Skyler Windmiller of Mill Valley were among the top 30 semifinalists for the award.
