Free State, Lawrence track and field teams compete in regional meets

The Lawrence and Free State track and field teams were in Olathe and Topeka on Friday for the Olathe North 6A regional and Washburn Rural 6A regional meets.

Lawrence was in Olathe and scored a combined 52 points between the boys and girls teams. La’Keyshia Woods was Lawrence’s lone regional champion, as she won the 400-meter dash at 58.10 seconds. She also placed seventh in the 200-meter dash at 26.39 seconds. Tyler Dye was the runner-up in the javelin with a 200-foot, 4-inch throw.

In the girls 1,600-meter run, Andie Garrett finished fourth at 5 minutes, 9.83 seconds, while Juliet Outka took 10th in the race at 5:47.73. Garrett and Outka placed seventh and 17th, respectively, in the 800-meter run.

Layla Simmons took fourth in the long jump at 18 feet, 4 inches. Hadley Ornes finished fifth in the girls high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches, and Simmons came in ninth in the event at 5 feet. Aaden Chee placed fourth in the boys pole vault at 13 feet, Omar Hernandez-Rhea finished eighth at 11 feet, 6 inches and Lawson Donly took 10th at 11 feet. In the girls pole vault, Chloe Griffith placed ninth at 9 feet.

Devin Foster placed fifth in the shot put at 52 feet, 2.75 inches, and Joey Dooley took sixth at 49 feet, 9 inches. Joseph Lucas finished seventh in the triple jump at 44 feet, 1.5 inches and eighth in the long jump at 21 feet, 9 inches.

Truth Pope placed seventh in the 400-meter dash at 50.10 seconds, and Murphy Nowak took seventh in both the 110-meter hurdles at 16.43 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles at 42.00 seconds.

Lawrence’s boys 4×400-meter relay team finished fourth at 3:23.00, while the 4×100-meter relay team took sixth at 43.09 seconds and the 4×800-meter relay team placed sixth at 8:21.02. Lawrence’s girls 4×100-meter relay team finished eighth at 50.98 seconds and the 4×400-meter relay team took eighth at 4:09.20.

Free State’s girls track and field team finished third in the Washburn Rural regional with 134.5 points, while the boys finished fifth with 72 points.

Six Firebird girls and one boy finished as regional champions. Beatrice Essman won the 400-meter dash at 57.95 seconds, and Grace Toner won the 800-meter dash at 2:16.68. Taylor Hulcher won the 1600-meter dash at 5:09.70. Harrison Leiszler won the boys 400-meter dash at 50.48 seconds.

Parker Jones won the long jump at 18 feet, 1.75 inches, and Jane Cast won the pole vault at 12 feet. Sadie Reynolds won the discus at 132 feet, 4 inches.

In other girls races, Aiyanna Moss finished third in the 400-meter dash at 59.00 seconds. Hulcher finished fourth in the 800-meter dash at 2:18.24, and Mady Whitney placed seventh at 2:30.15. Toner finished as the runner-up in the 1600-meter run behind Hulcher at 5:11.48.

Nadia Karapuda took seventh in the 3200-meter run at 12:01.91, and Eloise Frye finished eighth at 12:23.16. Grace Christline placed 10th at 12:47.08.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Shana Teenor placed fourth at 15.85 seconds, while Peyton Moore took seventh at 16.65 seconds and Beau Hulcher placed eighth at 17.02 seconds. Moore finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles at 47.86 seconds, and Tennor took fifth at 47.91 seconds. Harper Graham came in sixth at 48.25 seconds.

Cast finished fifth in the long jump at 16 feet, 6.75 inches and Marygrace Bradford placed sixth at 15 feet, 10.5 inches. Chloe Voss took third in the triple jump at 35 feet, 3 inches, while Bradford finished eighth at 33 feet, 8.75 inches and Layla Hafoka placed 11th at 31 feet, 11.5 inches.

In the pole vault, Voss was the runner-up at 10 feet, and Vivenne Pro took fourth at 9 feet. Savannah Lynch took eighth at 87 feet, 11 inches, and Harper Graham placed ninth at 87 feet, 4 inches.

On the boys side, Jasper Hansen Terry was the runner-up in the 800-meter run at 1:58.61, and Anderson Bateman took fifth at 2:01.46. Jonah Frye placed fifth in the 3200-meter run at 10:05.24 with Nicholas Johnson taking sixth at 10:17.04.

Van Catloth took eighth in the 110-meter hurdles at 16.27 seconds and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles at 41.86 seconds. The boys 4×800-meter relay team was the runner-up at 8:06.26, and the 4×400-meter relay team finished fourth at 3:28.21. The 4×100-meter hurdles team took eighth at 43.94 seconds.

Nathan Huerter placed sixth in the high jump at 6 feet, and Brody Migchelbrink took eighth at 5 feet, 10 inches. In the long jump, Toby Kwan placed third at 21 feet, 7 inches, while Huerter finished eighth at 19 feet, 8 inches. Michael Harrison came in 10th at 19 feet, 6 inches.

Kwan finished sixth in the triple jump at 40 feet, 2 inches, and Harrison took seventh at 38 feet, 9.25 inches. Elliot Shrack placed eighth at 9 feet, 6 inches.

Samuel Sengchan took fifth in the discus at 142 feet, 3 inches, and James Kahungura placed third in the shot put at 47 feet, 5.5 inches. In the javelin, Hudson Andrew took third at 160 feet, 9 inches, while Ollie Crowell placed fourth at 149 feet, 2 inches. Samuel Lee finished sixth at 137 feet, 2 inches.
