Baldwin girls take third in 4A state track meet; local schools finished with 7 state champions combined

The track and field season concluded at Wichita State University on Saturday for all area schools, and that included several teams placing in the top five as local athletes finished their seasons as state champions.

6A

Free State’s girls team scored 44 points and tied for fifth with Manhattan among 6A schools. The Firebird boys scored seven points, which put them tied for 24th.

The Free State boys 4×800-meter relay team took seventh at 8:08.65, while the girls 4×800-meter relay team finished eighth at nine minutes, 45.67 seconds. In the 4×400-meter relay, the Free State girls placed fifth at 4:04.67.

Beatrice Essman was the runner-up in the 400-meter dash at 58.07 seconds. She had the best preliminary time, which was 56.85 seconds. Aiyanna Moss finished fifth in the event with a 59.27-second run.

In the girls 1600-meter run, Grace Toner finished seventh at 5:09.88, and Taylor Hulcher placed eighth at 5:09.95. Toner took third in the 800-meter run at 2:16.22, while Hulcher placed 16th at 2:24.97. On the boys side, Jasper Hansen Terry ran the 800-meter run in 1:57.18, which was eighth.

Sadie Reynolds won the discus throw at 145 feet, 4 inches, and James Kahungura placed 11th in the shot put with a final throw of 47 feet, 5 inches. Hudson Andrew finished 12th in the javelin throw at 157 feet, 10 inches.

Parker Jones was the runner-up in the girls long jump at 18 feet, 5.75 inches. Toby Kwan finished fifth in the boys long jump at 22 feet, 2.25 inches. Chloe Voss took 14th in the triple jump at 34 feet, 3.5 inches.

Lawrence’s boys team scored nine points, which put the Lions tied for 20th. The Lions scored five points on the girls side for 24th.

Lawrence’s boys 4×400-meter relay team finished seventh with a time of 3:25.42.

Andie Garrett finished ninth in the girls 1600-meter run at 5:10.23 and took 13th in the 800-meter run at 2:22.64.

Tyler Dye finished third in the javelin throw at 195 feet, 11 inches. Devin Foster placed sixth in the shot put at 49 feet, 11.75 inches, and Joey Dooley took ninth at 48 feet, 9 inches.

Layla Simmons took fourth in the long jump at 17 feet, 5 inches, and Hadley Ornes finished 15th in the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches.

Joseph Lucas took 15th in the triple jump at 42 feet, 5.75 inches, and Aaden Chee placed 13th in the pole vault at 12 feet, 6 inches.

4A

The Baldwin girls placed third in 4A with 57 points, while Baldwin’s boys team finished with 25 points, which was good for 11th in 4A.

The Bulldogs’ girls 4×800-meter relay team won state with a 9:27.47 time. The boys relay team in the race finished fourth at 8:09.67. In the 4×400-meter relay, the Baldwin girls won again with a 4:00.09 time. In the boys race, the Bulldogs took third at 3:26.20.

Irelyn Kennedy won the 1600-meter run at 5:07.87 and was the runner-up in the 3200-meter run at 11:06.03. Kami Moore won the 800-meter run at 2:16.90, and Shea Griffith finished as the runner-up in the race at 2:18.41.

Kasey Hamrick took eighth in the boys 400-meter dash at 50.95 seconds. In the girls hurdles, Ivy Holloman finished eighth in the 300-meter race at 48.60 seconds.

Brendan O’Connor was the runner-up in the shot put at 53 feet, 7.25 inches and fourth in the discus throw at 161 feet, 9 inches.

David Wilson placed third in the triple jump at 45 feet. 9.25 inches, and Andrew Bailey finished 13th in the high jump at 6 feet.

Eudora’s boys team took fourth in 4A with 54.50 points, and the girls team scored 29, which was tied for seventh.

Eudora’s girls 4×400-meter relay team placed third at 4:06.91, and the 4×800-meter relay team finished 10th at 10:13.28. The boys 4×100-meter relay team won with a time of 42.55 seconds, while the girls team took fifth at 49.95 seconds.

Grayson Masterson placed fifth in the boys 3200-meter run at 9:48.72, and Emilia Mast took 15th in the girls run at 12:02.65. Mast finished the 1600-meter run in 5:46.33, which was 13th, and Masterson finished his 1600-meter run in 4:31.89, which was seventh.

Cameren Tice took third in the boys 100-meter dash at 10.79 seconds and was the runner-up in the 200-meter dash at 21.82 seconds. Brynn Deterding finished third in the 300-meter hurdles at 46.17 seconds and took ninth in the 100-meter hurdles at 16.44 seconds.

Brady Von Holten was the runner-up in the discus throw at 166 feet. 9 inches, while Brock Long took sixth at 156 feet, 2 inches. Cage Crabill finished fourth in the shot put at 50 feet, 2.5 inches, while Ethan Winton placed 14th at 45 feet, 11.5 inches. Alexander Gonzalez placed 10th in the javelin throw at 165 feet, 6 inches, and Adria Chrislip finished 17th in the girls javelin throw at 105 feet, 2 inches.

Brenika Rader was the runner-up in the high jump at 5 feet, 4 inches, and Stella Wyrick placed 11th in the long jump at 15 feet, 9.75 inches. Bailey Hammerschmidt finished 16th in the triple jump at 32 feet, 3 inches, and Wyrick took 18th at 31 feet, 7 inches.

Izzy Brunkow finished third in the pole vault at 10 feet, 6 inches, while Edie Siemon took 12th in the event at 9 feet, 6 inches. On the boys side, Colton Bowser finished sixth at 13 feet, 6 inches, and George Hagan took seventh at 13 feet.

The Tonganoxie girls scored 19 points, which was 11th, while the boys team scored seven points for 23rd place.

The Chieftains’ boys 4×800-meter relay team placed 11th at 8:37.12.

Adalyn Schooler won the discus throw at 146 feet, 4 inches and placed fourth in the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches. Adlen Johnson placed sixth in the girls shot put at 37 feet, 0.5 inches, and Schooler finished seventh at 36 feet, 8.25 inches. Sophia Heithaus took 14th in the event at 33 feet, 4 inches.

Brayden Seymour threw 48 feet, 3.50 inches in the boys shot put, which put him seventh. Roman Holthaus took fourth in the high jump at 6 feet, 2 inches. Ashlyn Brune placed 16th in the girls long jump at 15 feet, 6 inches and 11th in the triple jump at 33 feet, 1.75 inches. Keegan Murry took ninth in the girls pole vault at 10 feet.

3A

Perry-Lecompton’s girls track and field team scored 29 points, which was seventh-most among 3A girls. The boys track and field team put up four points at the meet, which put the Kaws tied for 35th in the 3A team score.

The Kaws’ girls 4×400-meter relay team was runner-up with a 4:04.01 time, and the boys 4×800-meter relay finished 12th at 8:32.90.

Emmy Reed was the runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles at 44.97 seconds, and Macie Corcoran took third in the race at 44.98 seconds. Corcoran also placed third in the 100-meter hurdles at 15.25 seconds.

Peyton McCune took 11th in the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches, and Jolie Corcoran finished eighth in the long jump at 16 feet, 9.5 inches. Amos Brakenhoff took fifth in the boys javelin throw at 186 feet, 10 inches.

The Kaws took 12th in the boys 4×800-meter relay with an 8:32.90 time.
