LHS soccer blanks Junction City

? Robert Lyan scored four goals, and goalkeepr Jeff Mekus recorded a shutout as Lawrence High’s boys soccer team blanked Junction City, 6-0, on Saturday.

Johannes Reiber and John Mwithiga added one goal apiece for the Lions, who led 2-0 at halftime.

“At times I thought we moved the ball really well,” LHS coach Mike Murphy said. “They were going to make us earn every goal. We put some good combinations together.”

Gavin Fischer assisted on two goals, including a header on one of Lyan’s goals, and Justin Riley, Parker Davies and Nick Andrews each assisted on one goal.

“Robert Lyan had a great game,” Murphy said. “We’re relying on him a lot. I’d like to see us distribute the scoring a little better, and I’m sure we will. Right now, he’s dealing it, and we’re getting it to him.”

Murphy also cited the defensive play of Davies, Connor Henrichs, Dalen Reed and Bray Kelley.

“Our defense is still playing real well,” Murphy said. “They didn’t really challenge us with much offense, but when they did, we shut them down.”

LHS (4-1-1) will entertain Olathe Northwest on Tuesday.
