Lions tennis fifth at Emporia Invitational

Lawrence High’s Kendall Pritchard went 2-2, and the Lions’ girls tennis team placed fifth among six teams Saturday at the Emporia Invitational.

Pritchard finished in 10th place in the singles competition, while the Lions’ Whitney Simons went 0-3 for eighth place.

In doubles, Lily Abromit and Brooke Braman teamed to go 2-1 for ninth place, and Carly Davis and Haley Ryan went 1-2 for 11th place.

“We didn’t play well at the beginning, but we started to correct our mistakes,” LHS coach Chris Marshall said. “We were slow getting started.”

The Lions will entertain Topeka High, Topeka West and Washburn Rural on Monday.
