KU student charged with battery and criminal restraint

A 19-year-old Kansas University student was charged Thursday in Douglas County District Court with three counts of battery and one count each of criminal damage and criminal restraint.

Won Mo Kang was arrested Tuesday evening following incidents that occurred during the day Tuesday at various locations and involved an acquaintance of Kang’s, said Lawrence Police Sgt. Trent McKinley.

Kang allegedly damaged property and prevented the victim from leaving home. The victim also sustained nonlife-threatening injuries during the incident.

Kang was originally arrested on suspicion of kidnapping. The most serious charge, aggravated battery, carries a maximum penalty of 34 months in prison.

Bond was set at $7,000.
