Former judge Tacha to be honored

Former Kansas University School of Law professor and federal Judge Deanell Tacha will be honored Saturday with a national award for her judicial service.

Tacha, who is dean of the Pepperdine University School of Law, will accept the A. Sherman Christensen Award, given for “distinguished, exceptional and significant leadership.” Tacha, a Lawrence resident, will accept the award at the U.S. Supreme Court.

The award, funded by an endowment established by LexisNexis, is named in honor of federal Judge Albert Sherman Christensen, who died in 1996.

Tacha worked at the KU law school, in various capacities, from 1974 to 1985, before being appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit in 1985. Tacha served on that court until 2011.
