A 32-year-old Lawrence man was charged Friday in Douglas County District Court with the rape of a 24-year-old college student, an acquaintance of the man.

According to Lawrence police, the woman, while at Lawrence Memorial Hospital on Oct. 7, reported the man had sexually assaulted her earlier at a home in central Lawrence.

Lawrence police Sgt. Trent McKinley said officers conducted numerous interviews during the week prior to arresting the man Thursday night. Bond was set at $75,000, and the next court hearing in the case is 2 p.m. Oct. 30. The Journal-World generally does not name suspects in sex crimes unless they are convicted.
