Lawrence man dies in single-vehicle crash in eastern Douglas County

A Lawrence man has died in a single-vehicle crash in eastern Douglas County.

About 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, Douglas County dispatch received a call about a single-vehicle accident near the intersection of County Road 1061 and North 900 Road, south of Eudora, near the Johnson County line.

Sgt. Blake McCall of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said the man was driving westbound on North 900 Road when his vehicle left the roadway and collided head-on into a tree, killing him at the scene. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.

Officers are withholding the name of the man until his family is notified.

At about 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sgt. Steve Lewis of the Sheriff’s Office said officers had still not contacted all of the man’s family, so the name had still not been released. He did say the man was a 56-year-old Lawrence resident driving a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
