Scholarship honors KU band director

Kansas University School of Music has established a scholarship in honor of longtime director of bands Robert Foster.

Foster is a professor of music education and music therapy at KU, where he served as director of bands for 30 years starting in 1971. He also is conductor and director of the Lawrence City Band and has held leadership roles on numerous regional and national organizations.

The Robert Foster Band Scholarship, established through KU Endowment, will provide long-term scholarship support to KU band participants and help recruit new musicians, according the School of Music. The scholarship is hoped to allow students to devote more time to study and practice and to help attract students to KU Bands who might otherwise be unable to participate.

The fundraising goal is $500,000. For more information or to make a donation, contact Michael Arp at 785-832-7410 or marp@kuendowment.org.
