Investigation ongoing of attempted ATM theft in Princeton

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate an attempted theft of an ATM from the Patriots Bank in Princeton, according to a release from the department. At 1:22 a.m. Sunday, law enforcement officials responded to a bank alarm and found that the outside ATM had been removed and was being pushed by a truck traveling west on John Brown Road.

The truck fled, leaving the ATM behind, and led police on a chase on John Brown Road to the city of Williamsburg, where the truck crashed. The driver fled on foot through neighborhoods in the dark, and was able to escape police.

Several other law enforcement agencies assisted with the incident, and the sheriff’s office has identified a person of interest in the case. The ATM and all of the money was recovered.
