A 5-year-old and a 9-year-old were treated then released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a single-vehicle accident Sunday night on Interstate 70, just east of Tonganoxie.

The girls, Danika and McKinzie Szopinski, suffered injuries after their mother, Emily Szopinski, 31, lost control of her vehicle on the wet highway and struck the median barrier, according to a report from the Kansas Turnpike Authority. The accident occurred about 6 p.m. at mile marker 214.

The accident report lists Rogers, Ark., as the family’s hometown.
