Richmond man, 24, sentenced to 39 months in prison for his role in robbery

A Douglas County judge Wednesday sentenced a 24-year-old Franklin County man to serve more than three years in prison for his role in a 2011 robbery in Lawrence.

District Judge Paula Martin sentenced Dustin A. Smith of Richmond to 39 months in prison after he entered a plea in February to one count of conspiracy to commit aggravated battery, according to Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson’s office.

Prosecutors accused Smith of participating in the robbery last March in the 800 block of Hilltop Drive with co-defendants Mikael Englund, 23, also of Richmond, and a juvenile. Englund is accused of participating in another robbery at the same residence a few weeks earlier, and he’s scheduled to stand trial Monday.

The victim in the case testified at a hearing last December that in mid-March 2011 three men, Englund and two men he couldn’t identify, injured him and robbed him at his residence. The victim did not report the crimes to police until after the second robbery.
