LHS tennis 3rd at Emporia
Emporia ? Lawrence High’s Thomas Irick placed second in singles Tuesday at the Emporia tennis invitational. Irick went 2-1 to help the Lions finish third among six teams.
The LHS doubles team of Matt Grom and Pace Leggins also went 2-1 for a second-place finish.
LHS coach Chris Marshall said he wasn’t overly pleased or displeased with the third-place showing.
“We’re still pretty rusty,” the LHS coach said. “We haven’t had a lot of practice time. There’s definitely room for improvement. I can’t be too disappointed with third place.”
Topeka Hayden won the tournament, and Andover placed second.
The Lions’ Victor Andrade went 1-2 to place fourth in singles, and Matt Mikel and Jason Lee teamed to go 1-2 for a fifth-place finish in doubles.
The Lions will enterain Seabury in a dual meet on Thursday.
