KU CLAS looks to fill chairman position

Danny Anderson, dean of Kansas University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, said this week that he intends to meet with faculty of the Germanic literatures and languages department in a few weeks to discuss the open chairman’s position in the department.

Anderson said he doesn’t yet have a time frame for when the full-time position could be filled, and he would know more after meeting with department members. He said helping department members to be productive in their teaching and research would be his goal in selecting a new leader.

The position has been filled on an interim basis by an associate dean of the college since William Keel left the chairman’s position at the beginning of this academic year. Keel remains on the faculty.

Anderson would not discuss the reasons behind Keel’s departure as chairman, saying it was a personnel matter. Keel, in previous interviews, has also declined to discuss the situation.
