LHS girls track wins, boys 2nd at Topeka West

? Monica Howard finished first in the high jump and javelin, and Lawrence High’s girls track team won its season-opening quadrangular Thursday at Topeka West.

Blake Hocking, James Kenney, Jeffery Moses and Ryan Shackelford placed 1-2-3-4 in the shot put to help LHS take second in the boys competition.

The Lions won the girls meet with 811/2 points ahead of Topeka Seaman with 75.

The LHS boys totaled 88 points, second to Seaman’s 95.

Other winners for the LHS boys included Josh Shump in the 1600, Nathan Stringer in the 3200, Manny Romero in the javelin, Alex Ballard in the pole vault and Steven Hill in the triple jump.

Also winning for the LHS girls were Rebecca Finley in the discus, Kennedy Dold in the pole vault, the 4×800 relay team of Michala Ruder, Emily McEntire, Payton Covert and Daisey Morales, and the 4×400 relay team of Marissa Pope, Howard, Jensen Edwards and Ruder.
