Participants in a disturbance early Sunday in the 1100 block of Massachusetts Street were cited for either battery or disorderly, conduct, according to Lawrence police.

Kim Murphree, a police spokeswoman, said officers were called about 2 a.m. to a fight involving a large group of people. Police conducted a car stop on a vehicle observed fleeing from the scene. Witnesses said the men in the vehicle were upset that people were in the street, and an altercation ensued when the people in the vehicle got out to engage some people in the street.
