LHS’ Wright-Conklin to wrestle in Kansas-Missouri all-star dual

Lawrence High senior and three-time Class 6A state wrestling champion Reece Wright-Conklin will be among the 28 seniors competing tonight at the 20th Annual Metro Classic, a dual pitting Kansas wrestlers against their Missouri counterparts.

A 182-pounder with a 38-2 senior-season record, Wright-Conklin will face Park Hill South, Mo., senior Nick Gillespie, a fifth-place state medalist with a 47-8 record.

Matches are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Other area wrestlers also were selected for the Kansas team. Baldwin state champions Andrew Morgan (126 pounds) and Colton Bonner (220) will represent the Sunflower State, and their coach, Kit Harris, will be one of the Kansas coaches.

Mill Valley’s Christian Service (138) and Wellsville’s Jesse LaMay (160) will wrestle for Kansas. Mill Valley coach Travis Keal will be on the team’s staff.

Tickets cost $10 at the door. All profits from the dual go to wrestling programs at the University of Central Missouri and Fort Hays State University, as well as the Jeff Wicina Scholarship fund.
