KU football completes signing class with addition of linebacker Jon Shelby

Kansas football coach Charlie Weis announced the addition of junior-college linebacker Jon Shelby on Friday.

Shelby is the 27th and final member of Weis’ 2012 recruiting class.

Shelby comes to KU after spending his first two years at Nassau Community College in New York. While there, he teamed up with fellow KU signee Aslam Sterling to help the Lions to a 19-2 mark, which included an 11-0 record in 2010 and No. 3 NJCAA ranking.

Shelby played in all 21 games at NCC, posting 82 tackles and 59 solo stops. He also recorded 12 tackles-for-loss, two sacks, two pass breakups and one fumble recovery.

A native of Brockton, Mass., Shelby was honored as a first-team All-Northeast Conference member at linebacker in 2011.

Shelby played at Brockton High School prior to attending NCC. He averaged 20 tackles per game his senior season and also had four sacks and three fumble recoveries while playing both inside and outside linebacker.
