A recent weekend of official visits is already beginning to pay dividends for the Kansas football team.
Wide receiver Maliek Brown announced his commitment to KU in a post on Instagram early on Sunday morning. Brown is a 6-foot-3, 185-pound three-star prospect out of Chapel Hill High School in Tyler, Texas, where he is a three-sport athlete who also runs track and plays basketball.
Brown becomes the second wideout in the Jayhawks’ class after Deng Tong of Kansas City, Missouri, and is KU’s 10th commitment overall for 2027. Brown had garnered offers of late from Baylor, Kentucky, Michigan State and TCU, and had gone on an official visit to Louisiana Tech in recent weeks. KU made its own offer to the wide receiver in late April.
In his junior season for Chapel Hill, Brown caught 43 passes for 768 yards and 11 touchdowns, according to MaxPreps.
KU now has two incoming freshmen in the fold compared to three seniors at wide receiver (Nahzae Cox, Nik McMillan and Cam Pickett). The Jayhawks had several other wideouts on campus in the past week, including Kobe Haynes (Whitney, Texas), Tavares Powell (Bradenton, Florida) and Jay Williams (Long Beach, California), as they look to build on the progress they have made already in the recruiting class.
Previously, KU added three wideouts in the 2026 class, all of whom were on campus in the spring after enrolling early: Corbin Glasco (Denton, Texas), Tyren Parker (Topeka) and Nate Sims (Ottawa).
