Former Kansas University guard Mario Chalmers of the Miami Heat joined Clyde Lovellette Thursday in becoming only the second Jayhawk to win an NCAA championship and an NBA title.

Lovellette, who won an NCAA title in 1952 with KU, won NBA titles with the Minneapolis Lakers in 1954 and the Boston Celtics in 1963 and 1964. Chalmers won an NCAA title with KU in 2008 to go with the Miami Heat crown.

Chalmers becomes the 10th Jayhawk to win an NBA title. Others: Lovellette; Wayne Simien, Miami, 2006; Maurice King, Boston, 1960; Wilt Chamberlain, 1967, Philadelphia and 1972, Lakers; Jo Jo White, 1974, 1976 Boston; Bill Bridges, 1975, Golden State; Jacque Vaughn, 2007, San Antonio; Paul Pierce, 2008, Boston; Scot Pollard, 2008, Boston.

Trivia - Mario also won at the high school level - two time state champ team in Alaska.

Cole scored and rebounded in junk time. BTW, has anyone else noticed how often he manages to get in the camera shots of other players?

It was fun watching Nick, Mario and Cole (even if it was mop up duty) in the finals. Did anyone catch if Cole and Mario met up after the final horn? Congratulations Mario, while I was rooting against your team, it was great to see him play so well.

Considering we had players on three of the final four teams in the NBA playoffs, it was a pretty good chance we'd have another ring on a Jayhawk this year.

Glad Mario got it... Had the Thunder won, this same article would be featuring Cole Aldrich.

I got tired of the NBA circus but I always take time to watch Mario, Pierce and all the other guys from KU.

I could not be happier for our MVP from Lawrence.

Thanks Mario. You are great.

This article needs clarification. Second Jayhawk PLAYER to win...

LB and RC Buford.

Was Pritchard working for the Spurs as a scout when the Spurs win the title?

Chalmers may be the 10th Jayhawk player, but former players Greg Dreiling and JoJo White (I think) have rings working for their respective teams in the front offices.
