Lawrence police were searching for suspects in two vehicle burglaries reported Monday night in the 1900 block of New Hampshire Street.
Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence police spokesman, said a relative of a victim about 11:15 p.m. Monday saw a woman inside the victim’s vehicle. After the witness yelled, the suspect ran into a nearby vehicle another person was driving. While officers were in the area, a second vehicle burglary occurred at 11:30 p.m., and a woman again ran away from a victim’s vehicle and jumped into a waiting vehicle as police approached her.
McKinley said the suspects drove toward an officer, who later got into his patrol car to pursue the car. A Douglas County Sheriff’s officer later spotted the vehicle along East 23rd Street and attempted to stop it. A short pursuit was later called off.
McKinley said the vehicle was described as a red four-door vehicle with at least two women inside. The suspect stole $310 worth of items in the two burglaries.
