Lawrence man, 41, arrested after fleeing officers

Lawrence police arrested a 41-year-old Lawrence man Saturday evening after he fled from officers who were dispatched to a suspicious activity call in the 2400 block of West 25th Street.

Sgt. Trent McKinley, a police spokesman, said the man, James Lawton Thornton, was accused of trying to load a motorcycle with a stolen license tag in the parking lot. Police eventually found Thornton hiding near another building. Douglas County prosecutors on Monday filed three counts of theft, one count of possession of methamphetamine and one count of obstruction against Thornton.
