Donations grow for family that lost home in fire

Agencies helping a Douglas County family whose house was destroyed by a fire have been inundated with donations and are now expanding their efforts.

Lori Johns, director of the Roger Hill Volunteer Center, said organizers have received about 60 calls to pick up furniture and other items for the family of Roger and Camay Guillory, who lost their home in a Dec. 30 fire west of Lawrence.

“This is obviously way more than what this one family needs, but we have secured a donation of space from a downtown business owner who will let us store large items in his empty warehouse, so we would like to collect everything and make it available to other families in crisis,” Johns said. “What we are lacking is a way to pick up items and move them to the warehouse.”

Anyone with a truck and moving dollies and is willing to help pick up items can leave a message at the volunteer center office at 865-5030 or email info@RHVC.org.
