Three still in hospital after U.S. 56 accident

Two passengers in a van involved in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 56 in Douglas County on Tuesday were both listed in serious condition at Kansas University Hospital on Thursday, a hospital spokesman said.

Jamie Ullery, 47, of Overbrook, and Alice Beatty, 51, of Independence, Mo., were both taken by air ambulance to KU Hospital after the crash.

The two were passengers in a van driven by Joann O’Brien, a 76-year-old Overbrook woman, which drifted left of the center line and struck a pickup truck. O’Brien remained in fair condition on Thursday at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo.
