Lawrence man, 23, arrested in connection with auto burglaries

January 5, 2012

Lawrence police arrested a man early Thursday morning after a string of auto burglaries at an apartment complex in the 1700 block of West 24th Street.

A caller told police about auto burglaries in progress in the area, and police arrived and found the suspect, a 23-year-old Lawrence man, in the area, said Lawrence Police Sgt. Matt Sarna.

The man fled on foot when officers tried to talk to him, Sarna said. After a foot pursuit, officers arrested him near 24th Street and Ousdahl Road.

Sarna said several cars were entered or damaged, and police are still investigating the incident.

The man is scheduled for a first appearance in Douglas County District Court on Friday.
