LHS girls basketball team loses second straight close game

? Kionna Coleman scored 16 points and Anna Wright added 14, but Lawrence High’s girls basketball team fell to Junction City, 60-56 in overtime, Tuesday night.

It was the second straight close loss for the Lions (0-2), who dropped a one-point decision to Emporia last week.

“We’re 0-2, and it hurts,” LHS coach Nick Wood said, “but the girls are battling really hard. There are just some little things that aren’t helping us get over the top. If we keep battling like that, we’ll be all right.”

The Lions outscored Junction City 15-12 in the fourth quarter to get the game tied but were outscored 7-3 in overtime.

“It was really a hard-fought game,” Wood said. “We battled the whole time.”

Kylie Seaman added 11 points for the Lions, and Bri Anderson scored eight.

The Lions will entertain Kansas City Harmon at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
