Lawrence police Wednesday arrested a 31-year-old Lawrence man charged with firing a gun in a February incident outside an apartment in northern Lawrence.
According to jail records, police took James Carnelous Benimon into custody about 10:45 a.m. in the 1300 block of Delaware Street. Douglas County prosecutors have charged Benimon with criminal discharge of a firearm and criminal possession of a firearm by a felon. Police were looking for a suspect after residents reported hearing and seeing someone fire several shots from one car into another the evening of Feb. 8 outside an apartment in the 1300 block of Michigan Way, near Second and Michigan streets.
Benimon also was arrested on a Lawrence Municipal Court traffic warrant and a warrant in a 2003 Wyandotte County case, according to jail records. According to the Kansas Department of Corrections, Benimon has two 2007 drug possession convictions in Douglas County and a 2001 Wyandotte County conviction for aggravated indecent solicitation.
He is being held on $25,000 bond in the Lawrence case.

Was he also suffering from a medical condition? I hear that if you have a "medical condition", you can fire a gun anywhere

A felon with 2 outstanding warrants vs. a long time Chief of Police with a medical condition. Nice comparison there Einsteins.

Some dude, I was thinking the same thing. Former Chief Olin gets to go to the hospital. This idiot, not. We need a better police department.
