Lawrence High teams to scrimmage tonight

As far as Lawrence High athletic director Ron Commons is concerned, tonight will be a dress rehearsal.

This evening’s Lawrence High Fall Sports Jamboree will double as a practice for everyone involved — not just players and coaches, but also ticket sellers, public address announcers and anybody else with game night responsibilities.

It’s one last chance for LHS to make sure it is ready to put on a big event.

“They’re anxious to get their season started,” Commons said of the Lions’ teams.

The LHS volleyball program will be the first in action at the jamboree, with its scrimmages running from 4 p.m. to 5:30 in the main gym.

Out at the LHS Soccer Stadium, the varsity and junior varsity boys soccer teams will scrimmage from 4:30 to 5:15. That will be followed by a JV and C-team scrimmage.

The football program’s youngest players — freshmen and sophomores — will scrimmage from 5:30-6:15 at LHS Football Stadium. The JV will scrimmage after that.

Varsity football takes the field at 7, and the girls golf, gymnastics and girls tennis teams will get introduced during the first portion of the scrimmage.

After the cross country teams run at 7:30, the evening wraps with the second half of the football team’s varsity scrimmage.

Admission to LHS Football Stadium will be $2 per person.
