More than 400 pounds of medication collected for prescription drug ‘Take-Back Day’

Lawrence Police Department and Douglas County Sheriff’s officers collected 401.5 pounds of medication as part of Saturday’s nationwide prescription drug “Take-Back Day,” said Sgt. Trent McKinley, a police spokesman. Over four hours Saturday, officers operated sites next to the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Mass., and at the Lawrence Police Department’s Investigations and Training Center parking lot, 4820 Bob Billings Parkway.

This is the fourth time the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, which destroys the drugs, has coordinated a voluntary collection day.
