One person hurt in fight overnight, another injured in accident

One person was taken to the hospital with facial injuries after a fight reported before 2 a.m. in the 1000 block of Ohio Street.

Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence police spokesman, said officers responded to a call about two suspects battering one victim. The victim was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, he said. No one had been booked into jail in connection with the case as of 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

About 30 minutes earlier, police and medics also responded to an accident near University and Crestline drives. McKinley said a vehicle had struck a parked car in the area. The passenger was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for treatment for a fractured clavicle and a laceration to the forehead, and the driver was arrested, McKinley said.

According to jail records, the driver, Michael Thomas Wright, 23, of Lawrence, was booked into jail on one count of DUI and no proof of insurance. He posted $600 bond and was given notice to appear May 2 on the charges in Lawrence Municipal Court.
