Kansas City man arrested in Lawrence on suspicion of aggravated battery after minor stab wound reported

Lawrence police arrested a 33-year-old Kansas City, Mo., man Friday afternoon on suspicion of aggravated battery after another man was found with a minor stab wound to his side.

Sgt. Matt Sarna, a Lawrence police spokesman, said officers were called at 2 p.m. to the 700 block of West Ninth Street about a disturbance and that police later found a 39-year-old man with apparent injuries near 10th and Indiana streets. The man alleged that he was involved in an altercation with a 33-year-old man.

Police found the suspect in the area and arrested him, but officers did not recover a weapon. The alleged victim, whose physical injuries were not life threatening, refused medical attention at the scene, Sarna said.

Douglas County prosecutors will make a decision about formal charges in the case. The Journal-World generally does not identify suspects unless they are formally charged.
