Lawrence man, 50, hurt in accident on U.S. Highway 24-40 west of Basehor

A 50-year-old Lawrence man was injured in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday evening in Leavenworth County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

According to an accident report, Bruce D. Edwards was driving east on U.S. Highway 24-40 about 5:20 p.m. and attempted to turn his 2000 Dodge truck north onto 178th Street west of Basehor, but Edwards failed to yield to a westbound 2004 semitrailer driven by Paul Haverkamp, 49, of Algona, Iowa. The truck struck Edwards’ vehicle on the passenger side.

Edwards, who was not wearing a seat belt according to the report, was taken to Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan. Haverkamp, who did wear a seat belt, was not injured.

KU Hospital officials said Edwards on Wednesday was listed in fair condition.

Wow. T-boned by a semi and still alive. The driver is lucky that he was not killed. Perhaps the driver of the semi was able to slow down before impact.
