Overland Park — Lawrence High’s volleyball team began its season going 2-1 at Shawnee Mission West on Thursday.
The Lions fell to Olathe Northwest (17-25, 9-25), but came back to beat Shawnee Mission West (25-20, 25-21) and Shawnee Mission South (17-25, 25-15, 25-12).
“It was our first time out, and we had a lot of jitters going into it,” LHS coach Stephanie Magnuson said. “It’s a young season, a new team from last year, and hopefully we just keep moving up.”
Monica Howard led the Lions with 21 kills and 16 digs, while Brea May pitched in 42 assists. Krista Costa produced 14 kills and seven blocks, while Kailey Wingert had 13 kills and 10 digs. Caitlin Broadwell added nine kills, and Zoe Reed pitched in with 20 digs.
Lawrence (2-1) will play in the Olathe South Tournament on Saturday.
