Deer dies after running into afternoon traffic on 23rd Street
A deer struck a vehicle on one of Lawrence’s busiest streets Friday afternoon leading to some traffic delays along 23rd Street.
Sgt. Matt Sarna, a Lawrence police spokesman, said a deer ran at 2:30 p.m. Friday from north to south near 23rd and Alabama streets and struck the back of a Jeep that was traveling in the eastbound inside lane.
The driver was not injured, and the vehicle was not damaged, Sarna said. The deer did not survive.
No one was cited. Sarna said it was unusual for a driver to encounter a deer in the middle of the city.
