"Darrell Joe Sharp was released on a $2,500 own recognizance bond and given notice to appear in district court May 19."

========================================

Isn't that statement an oxymoron? An own recognizance bond is one where a person is released on his/her word that they will appear in court. Since no bail is paid on an own recognizance bond, why the $2,500 payment?

So did he pay a $2500 bond, or was he released on his own recognizance?

If he doesn't show up for court on May 19, he has to pay the $2,500..
