Kansas City, Mo. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City has extended its display of the "Original Rules of Basket Ball" for two weeks.
James Naismith's creation was scheduled to be taken down May 29. The museum said in a release Thursday that the rules display has been extended until June 12.
Naismith wrote the 13 rules on Dec. 21, 1891, for the YMCA training school in Springfield. He moved to Lawrence, Kan., in 1898 and became the first basketball coach at the University of Kansas. He coached for nine seasons before assuming other academic duties and serving as athletics director.
The museum said David Booth and Suzanne Deal Booth, who own the rules, asked that the display time be extended.
The exhibition is free.
