A Basehor man remained at a Kansas City area hospital Friday after a two-vehicle accident Thursday morning south of Basehor.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Michael Newman, 64, failed to yield his pickup truck to a semitrailer heading east on U.S. Highway 24-40. Newman was traveling north on 155th Street and his truck was struck by the semi. The accident happened about 11:15 a.m.

Newman, who wore a seat belt, was taken to Kansas University Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition Friday, a hospital spokesman said.

This newspaper has a hell of a time figuring out how to address anything related to KU. High comedy!

We saw the aftermath of that accident just minutes after it happened and I thought the truck was struck by two vehicles because both sides were dented in. There wasn't anything near that he could have been pushed into really. Anyways, when you go against a semi it's usually the semi that wins so glad to hear he survived and now just sending prayers that he makes a full and quick recovery.
