Basehor man in serious condition following accident on 24-40 highway

A Basehor man remained at a Kansas City area hospital Friday after a two-vehicle accident Thursday morning south of Basehor.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Michael Newman, 64, failed to yield his pickup truck to a semitrailer heading east on U.S. Highway 24-40. Newman was traveling north on 155th Street and his truck was struck by the semi. The accident happened about 11:15 a.m.

Newman, who wore a seat belt, was taken to Kansas University Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition Friday, a hospital spokesman said.
