Prosecutors charge man arrested after altercation with KU police with felony battery

Douglas County prosecutors Wednesday filed two felony battery of a campus police officer charges against a 49-year-old Lawrence man who was arrested Monday night after an altercation with Kansas University public safety officers.

Prosecutors filed the two counts plus three misdemeanor charges against Troy John Frank, who officers said refused to leave Summerfield Hall, 1300 Sunnyside Ave., which was closed. After a five-minute altercation, officers used Mace to subdue the man. Some of the pepper spray injured one of the officers, but no major injuries were reported.

Frank also faces misdemeanor counts of criminal trespassing and two counts of obstruction. He appeared before a judge Wednesday afternoon.
