Northeast Sector Plan back on Douglas County Commission agenda

County commissioners Wednesday evening will continue public discussion concerning the inclusion of the Northeast Sector Plan in Horizon 2020.

The plan, which heard much opposition during the commission’s May 11 meeting, would help aid development in northeast Lawrence as well as Grant Township. A primary concern from Douglas County residents during the item’s last appearance on the agenda was its apparent lack of conservation of Class I and Class II soils.

The Northeast Sector Plan will be preceded in the meeting by various other items. Among the earlier issues will be the consideration for establishing the Douglas County Heritage Conservation Council and the consideration of a community improvement district that would help finance the costs of rehabilitating the Yankee Tank Dam, which sits just outside Lawrence.

The commission meeting will begin at 6:35 p.m. today in the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Mass.
