Lawrence man arrested, accused of cutting Topeka man in hand

Lawrence police arrested a 24-year-old Lawrence man Tuesday morning on an aggravated battery charge after he was accused of cutting a Topeka man in the hand with a knife during an altercation in the 700 block of West 25th Street.

Sgt. Matt Sarna, a police spokesman, said the suspect went to the apartment around 4 a.m. Tuesday because he was angry about the 21-year-old Topeka man being involved in an altercation with a woman earlier. As the Topeka man tried to shut the door to the apartment he was poked in the hand by a knife the Lawrence man had displayed, Sarna said.

A witness called police, and the Topeka man declined medical attention. Officers later found the Lawrence man in the 2400 block of Alabama Street and arrested him.

Prosecutors could file formal charges today. The Journal-World generally does not identify suspects unless they are formally charged.
