20-year-old Lawrence man ordered to stand trial in indecent liberties case

A Douglas County judge Tuesday ordered a 20-year-old Lawrence man to stand trial on charges he had sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl in May.

Prosecutors said District Judge Sally Pokorny heard evidence in a preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon and scheduled an Oct. 5 trial on charges of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and criminal sodomy with a child through fondling or touching.

Lawrence police arrested the man in June after receiving a call from a parent who alleged the man had inappropriate sexual relations with the girl May 21 in northeastern Lawrence.

The man was also arrested on a warrant from the Kansas Department of Corrections. He has been on parole since February after serving one year in prison on several theft and burglary convictions in Douglas County.
