2011 KUSports.com NBA Draft contest winner announced

The picks are in, the scores are tallied and we have a winner for the 2011 KUSports.com NBA Draft contest. Before the big reveal, let’s break down how everyone did.

There were 491 eligible entries. Contestants seemed to have the toughest time with Josh Selby’s draft position.

Contest stats

Average Pick

Marcus Morris: 9.5

Markieff Morris: 16

Selby: 28.5

Mode – The selection contestants picked most often

Marcus: 9 – 218 people thought he would be drafted ninth overall. One projection had him going as high as first overall. Two had him as low as 20th.

Markieff: 16 – picked by 142 people. His highest projection was second overall (by the same person who had Marcus going first — and Selby undrafted). The lowest anybody predicted Markieff going was 48th, followed by 38th.

Selby: 27 – picked by 48 people. Forty-six thought he would be drafted with the 17th pick. Ten predicted he would go undrafted. One entrant had him as high as seventh.

The winner

The winning score was seven. It came down to the second tiebreaker, which was the entrant closest to Selby’s draft position. That person, who picked Selby’s draft position exactly right …

… KUSports.com user nanamarty, Marty Draper! She will receive a $100 Jock’s Nitch gift card from us.

Marty’s picks: Marcus Morris 9, Markieff Morris 11, Josh Selby 49

Believe it or not, Draper’s was the seventh-to-last eligible entry we had, slipping in just 20 minutes before our noon deadline on June 23. The seventh-to-last entry with a winning score of seven? Eerie.

So it looks like poring over last-minute draft projection boards paid off this time. Or did it?

Actually, that wasn’t Draper’s strategy at all. Turns out she had a little help from a big Josh Selby fan.

“My grandson loves Josh Selby and goes to the KU basketball camps,” she said.
