— TaMiya Green had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Emily Peterson added 16 points as Lawrence High routed Topeka West, 45-25, in the seventh-place game of the Capital City Classic girls basketball tournament on Saturday at Washburn Rural.

“The girls came out with a lot of energy from the beginning,” LHS coach Nick Wood said. “They did a good job of competing.”

The Lions (4-8) jumped to an early lead, then stamped the victory with a 15-1 fourth quarter.

“We talk about trying to play a complete game, and that was our leadership coming through,” Wood said. “The girls saw an opportunity to win the game and did the things they needed to do to get the win.”

The Lions will travel Tuesday at Shawnee Mission North.

I am assuming the leadership the coach speaks of is coming from Green and peterson, who had 32 of their 45 points saturday and 31 of their 40 points on Friday.
Green did well on Thursday while Peterson struggled against double teams.
The younger lions are starting to come around with the leadership of the seniors. Let's give credit where credit is due.
