Like the pathetic POS who was driving on the sidewalk near Applebee's at 6th & Monterey. Darn good thing a responsible person wasn't walking on that portion of the sidewalk at that particular time.

I cannot imagine a car driving on the sidewalk. Isn't it too narrow? Was this a motorcycle?

kernal 3 years, 11 months ago

A VW would prolly fit on the sidewalk.

Saw the same thing on campus by Snow Hall a month ago. The cops had him pulled over.

And a good time was had by only the few.

Wonder if LJW will do a poll today with the question, "Do you remember last night?".

Still less dangerous than texting while driving.

Do you know for a fact they were drunk? My guess is being stupid had as much to do with this as being drunk. Drunk and stupid is a lethal combination.

This person is probably close to driving on the sidewalk when sober.

LPD could arrest 100 people a weekend on DUI charges if they wanted.

I know one State Trooper who has been given formal discipline to stay out of Lawrence city limits because he was arresting too may drunks inside the city limits and was causing a backlog and overtime in the city courts. It will only get worse now.

And it's not just NYE drunk drivers, There was a recent OUI arrest at 3:00 in the afternoon. Right about the time kids get out of school. There are guys that start drinking when they wake up, continue drinking into the afternoon sitting at a bar, and get in their truck and drive off around 3-5 pm. And then go do..... something? I can't imagine what you are supposed to do when you have been drinking all day.

xr650 maby they didn't wake up and start drinking.maby it was their night time maby they work nights and have to wait 2 or 3 hours after they get off work before they start drinking because bars don't open till 9 a.m.and if they could have started drinking at 7 a.m. it would have been 1 p.m. and school wouldn't have been letting out.but it's ok if you go drinking at 7 p.m. and then drive at 3 a.m. what is the difference ? i work nights when you are drinking i am at work so i drink in the morning hours if i choose to.please people everyone who drinks at 9 a.m. does not have a drinking problem just enjoying our evening.

Chelsea Kapfer 3 years, 11 months ago

the major difference is that there aren't a bunch of kids getting out of school at 3a.m. and also, it doesn't matter when it is, it is never OK to drive after drinking.

Randall Barnes 3 years, 11 months ago

no it is never good to drink and drive afterwards and my point is if we were able to begin drinking at 7 a.m. then that would have put that driver out at 1 p.m. not 3 p.m. a lot less kids at that time.and just maby between 7 and 9 he had a couple extra stronger drinks at home while waiting for the bars to open.and yes i work the weekends as well so monday and tues mornings are like your fri and sat nights.so next time you hear of someone being drunk in the middle of your day might actually be the middle of their night.

Chelsea Kapfer 3 years, 11 months ago

I work nights also, but I guess drinking just isn't that important to me. I just don't agree that if the bars opened earlier then less people would be out at 3pm. I think DRUNKER people would be out at 3pm. And if your having strong drinks at home, waiting for the bars to open at 9am, then I hope you are taking a cab there, after those strong drinks. Daytime is daytime, no matter what hours you work.
