New trial date for Emporia woman accused of abandoning newborn baby

? A trial for an Emporia woman accused of abandoning her newborn baby in a trash bin has been postponed until March 21.

Christina Devine was charged with attempted first-degree murder after her 7-pound, 10-ounce baby was found alive in a trash bin at an Emporia apartment complex in October. KVOE reports that Devine’s trial was tentatively scheduled to begin Feb. 28.

Lyon County District Judge Merlin Wheeler also ruled Thursday that the trial will remain in Lyon County. Wheeler also ruled to suppress Devine’s statements made to an investigator for the state Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services, but allowed statements made to police.
