Lawrence man given probation for domestic battery convictions; deportation likely

A Douglas County judge on Friday sentenced a 20-year-old Lawrence man to serve probation for two misdemeanor domestic battery convictions, but attorneys said they expected the man to be deported to Mexico by U.S. immigration officials.

Porfirio Pascual Secundino entered guilty pleas to two counts of domestic battery after police arrested him early March 13 in North Lawrence after a 28-year-old woman said he had beaten and choked her with a belt in a vehicle.

The woman, who was in a relationship with Secundino, was not in court for the pleas but she had appeared at earlier hearings. District Judge Kay Huff said the U.S. Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement had put a hold on his immigration status, and he remained in custody at the Douglas County Jail Friday.
