A few education-oriented items from around the area and elsewhere:

Lawrence school district staffers will take to the stage tonight at Liberty Hall for the 21st annual Foundation Follies.

The event starts at 7 p.m. with a social hour and barbecue meal at Liberty Hall, 644 Mass. The show starts at 8 p.m.

Reservations are $25 for district staff and $35 for the general public. Walk-ups are welcome.

Proceeds go to the Lawrence Schools Foundation.

For more information, contact the foundation office at 330-2790.

Students in the agricultural education program and FFA at Free State High School are preparing to sell off the fruits — OK, plants — of their labor, and the public is invited to help out.

The fourth-annual Free State Plant Sale is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Eastside Greenhouse at the school, 4700 Overland Drive.

Organizers note that the sale is “just in time for Mother’s Day.”

“We have a variety of annuals, house plants, and vegetables to choose from,” said Laura Priest, Free State’s agriculture education teacher. “Help support agriculture education and come see what we’ve grown!”

One of my esteemed colleagues, Andy "Heard on the Hill" Hyland, points out that Kansas University’s next student body president is a Lawrence Lion.

Libby Johnson, a KU senior, won election Thursday on the KUnited ticket.
