Topeka ? Gavin Fischer placed second to lead five Lawrence High runners in the top eight as the Lions won the boys division of the Shawnee Heights Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at Lake Shawnee.

Fischer was runner-up in the 5K race in 17:54.

Rounding out the Lions’ top-eight placings: Simon Fangman, fourth, 18:17; Nathan Stringer, sixth, 18:39; Zach Andregg, seventh, 18:42; and Reid Hidenbrand, eighth, 18:42.

Lawrence won with 27 points. Runner-up Blue Valley West had 39.

LHS placed third on the girls side with 74 points, behind Blue Valley West (33) and Blue Valley Northwest (39).

Michala Ruder was fifth in 17:16 to pace the Lions, and teammate Grace Morgan was seventh in 17:34.
